The Saldanha Bay Safety Initiative (SBSI) was officially launched in 2019. Saldanha Bay Municipality provides a coordinating platform that brings together the various role-players who contribute to the safety and wellbeing of communities across the Saldanha Bay municipal area.
The SBSI serves as an important municipal coordinating vehicle for integrated community safety. It provides a platform where law enforcement agencies, emergency and social services, government departments, community safety structures and other partners can share information, identify concerns, coordinate resources and strengthen collective responses.
Importantly, the SBSI does not replace the mandates or responsibilities of individual organisations. Rather, it strengthens cooperation by connecting the relevant role-players and helping to translate coordination into practical action.
This commitment was once again demonstrated at the SBSI Community Safety Forum held on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, where role-players came together to discuss current and emerging safety challenges and strengthen the collective response to issues affecting communities across the municipal area.
For Saldanha Bay Municipality, the safety of our residents, visitors and everyone who lives, works or travels within our municipal area remains a priority. However, safer communities cannot be achieved by government or law enforcement agencies alone. Safety is a shared responsibility, and every person has a role to play.
The Municipality therefore encourages residents and community members to report crime, suspicious behaviour and safety concerns through the appropriate official channels. Do not remain silent and do not assume that someone else has already reported an incident. Information provided by members of the public can assist the relevant authorities in responding to incidents and taking appropriate action.
