Councilor André Brahm Truter was inaugurated as the Executive Mayor of the Saldanha Bay Municipality on 17 November 2021.

André was born in Stellenbosch but grew up in the beautiful Paarl Valley. He obtained his matric at Technical High School in Oudtshoorn. Thereafter he joined the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Malmesbury the following year and started his police training in Pretoria at the Mounted Unit.

After completing his training, André was posted to the Boesmansnek Borderpost (Lesotho-KZN border) and served in the stock theft unit.

He left the SAPS at the end of 1994 to open his own business. He ran successful companies in the forestry, agricultural, private security, transport industries and he also ran his own farming operation while living on the family farm. His passion and experience for farming is deep rooted, as he was also lecturing at the Annual Indigenous Small Stock Course at Agriculture College.

A large part of his life has been dedicated to Law Enforcement/Private Security/Policing and he has extensive experience in this field. Protecting fellow citizens remain a passion for him till this day.

André has always loved being involved with his community on all levels. He taught rugby at primary school level, he loves all things equine and is a keen angler. His love for sport resulted in him becoming President of KZN Midlands and finally, of Polocrosse South Africa. These achievements played an instrumental role in him being elected as the President of the South African Equestrian Federation.

André Truter is determined to improve the services that have been already delivered in the Saldanha Bay Municipal area. He is also eager to empower the lives of all residents.

Among his many plans, he plans to:

• enable an environment of collaboration/ moral regeneration
• enhance and graduate basic services
• attract investment
• prioritise public safety
• be innovative
• attain energy independence/resilience
